with all the money and support he has, johnny depp could definitely win against amber in criminal court if any of his evidence was credible. but it's not. and he knows he wouldn't win, which is why he's trying to save his reputation in a televised defamation case.
depp has already been outed as an abuser in civil court. he knows he can't win a criminal case, so he sues amber for "lost wages" after she called herself an abuse victim (without even naming him) because here he doesn't have to prove that he's not an abuser. him suing amber for defamation after a judge has concluded that she did indeed endure abuse at the hands of depp is how abusers get away with humiliating their victims over and over again.
this defamation case isn't about proving his "innocence." it's a way for him to save face all while pulling as much money from amber as he can and destroying her reputation in retaliation.
